    Description

Vintage pikake shell lei from family member's personal estate. Pikakes are tiny, delicate, soft white shells from Hawaiian waters. This striking 6-strand necklace was purchased in Honolulu between 1955 and 1959. It has the traditional cowrie shell connector, but no clasp. The necklace is long enough so it simply slips over the head. Strung on original cotton thread. No serious issues, although there are a few broken shells as expected in a necklace of such delicate nature and age. Photographs complete the description.
Shell necklaces of this era are getting harder to find, and this one is in excellent vintage condition. It's been well taken care of, only worn a few times, and kept in its original box for the past six decades. The box has a couple of small tears on the edge, as shown in the photo, but otherwise is in remarkable condition for its age. It contains its original sticker, tissue paper and grass mat lining.
    16" long
